Languages of the World
There are roughly 6,800 languages spoken on this planet.
It is estimated that 2,200 are spoken in Asia, 2,060 in Africa, 1,300
in the Pacific, 1,000 in the Americas, and 230 in Europe. However, 96%
of them are spoken by a mere 4% of the world’s population and half of
the world's languages are spoken in only eight countries.
Here is a list of the more commonly known languages in their English
as well as their native spelling, along with the main regions where they
are spoken. (If you are having trouble displaying some of the characters,
your current default font may not support all languages.)
