Machine Translation or Mad Translation?

Whereas machine translations can be useful for conveying the general "gist" of a text or document, the text they produce is far from being at a professional level. To date, machine translations do not lend themselves to official business communication, product or marketing collateral, websites, press releases, technical or medical instructions, or any content intended for distribution to the general public.

Why so? Because translation and interpreting go far beyond word substitution. Language is very subjective and dynamic and simply has not been harnessed by a "non-thinking" algorithm.

Example:
"Red tape is holding up the new bridge."

Google's German translation: "Rotes Klebeband hält die neue Brücke."

…which literally means: "Red sticky tape is holding the new bridge."
